Our Lady of Lourdes Kindergarten Curriculum

Be it known to all who enter here . . .

that Christ is the reason for this school.

He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes.

He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.

The goal of our Kindergarten is to provide a basic foundation for your child’s education. The program designed to make the transition from home to school as smooth as possible and make each child’s first experience with school successful and happy!

PreK: Preparation! The 2-year-old class concentrates on language and motor development, socialization, music and movement. Focus is placed on providing a loving environment for each child to experience a variety of age appropriate activities to stimulate their overall development. The "Theme" curriculum is utilized. Potty training is supported.

3-K: The Beginning Year! The 3-year-old class concentrates on the skills of socialization and sharing while introducing basic skills. Focus is placed on developing good work habits. Our phonics program is "Getting Ready to Read with Mother Goose". The "Theme" curriculum is also utilized. Children should be potty trained before entering K-3.

4-K: The Next Step! The 4-year-old class reinforces the skills learned in K-3 and introduces new ones. The children will learn letter recognition (upper/lowercase), letter sounds and numbers 1-20. Focus continues on good work habits. Our phonics program is "Sadlier Phonics" supplemented by "Zaner Bloser" writing. Our math program is "Math Their Way".  The "Theme" curriculum is also utilized.

5-K: Preparation for the First Grade: The 5-year-old class reinforces those skills learned in previous years. The children will master their letters and sounds, enjoy reading, work with numbers 1-100 and introduce reading, addition and subtraction. The language arts program is "Beginning to Read, Write and Listen" by McMillan. The math program is "Mathematics" by Addison Wesley accompanied by "Math Their Way".

Religious Training: All of our classes utilize the "Christ Our Life" program by Loyola Press. Religion is emphasized and taught every day. All Kindergarten classes attend Mass and Prayer Services (PreK does not attend Mass).  Bible stories are associated with every "theme" or "unit" taught.  Every month a different saint is focused on.
